Save Time and Link Your Social Accounts Together, Including Google+!

Due to the lack of time and abundance of Social Networks, as well as their undeniable necessity, I found myself compelled to find a way to post to all of my Social Network accounts simultaneously (including Google+) using Social Media integration. In other words, connecting the accounts with one another and consequently be able to automatically post to each account through one account, or through an app or an online service.

I personally have accounts on Google+, Facebook , Twitter, LinkedIn and Tumblr. But I wanted to be able to connect these accounts together, for free. So after an online research and numerous app testing, I found many ways to accomplish that goal. I chose only 3 approaches to share with you, which will focus on reposting to personal accounts only (i.e. reposting to groups and pages are disregarded), along with their pros and cons listed briefly under each approach.

2. Buffer

A very robust brilliant app and Chrome extension that posts to your Social Media accounts, instantaneously!
Pros
  1. Instant: Posts are sent instantly to all selected accounts
  2. Selective: You can select which Social Network account you'd like to include in the sharing process and which to exclude.
  3. Scheduling With Buffer, you can easily queue up a list of posts you'd like to send, and specify the sending time for each post. This is awesome!
Cons
  1. No Google+ or Tumblr Accounts: Recently, Buffer supports posting to Facebook, Twitter and Linked-In only. Which means you must access your Google+ & Tumblr accounts individually to share the same post there. It can post to Google+, but only to a Google+ Page. That doesn't really count.
  2. External Interface: If you want to post to all 3 accounts via Buffer you have to access Buffer's interface to do it.

Note: Buffer sends posts to personal accounts, groups and pages.

Important Note: Don't forget to uncheck the "Tweet posts to Facebook" option in your Twitter Profile Settings page to avoid post duplication on your Facebook Timeline.

10 Tips to Get More Followers for Your Site

Content publishers all have the same goal in mind when it comes to building their website: get more followers! If done correctly, more followers can mean more loyal visitors and brand advocates of your site and content. Here are a few tips that have helped site owners grow the community around their content.

1. Publish LOTS of Content

There are tons of articles emphasizing over and over again that content is hugely important for sites. So think about how your site can become the thought leader, the ultimate resource, for your audience. Great content will make your visitors want to share it, and in turn, increase content engagement on your site.

2. Promote Content Externally

Publishing great content is fundamental, but if you don’t have the right tools to get it “out there,” then it defeats the purpose. There are plenty of widgets and site tools to help you promote your content off-site, so see what best fits your goals (and budget). There are also cost-effective ways you can get your great content in front of the right audience; using social media, for example, can help get your content shared to new readers.

3. Provide Buttons to Engage

Speaking of sharing, your site should make it ridiculously easy for your visitors to share your content. Follow buttons––on the top of your page––can get more fans and followers prompt your visitors to connect with you on your social media profiles. Share buttons place strategically around your content will motivate your visitors to share it on their preferred networks. And this really works. With great content, simple follow and share buttons can boost sharing up to 22%. In fact, with the AddThis sharing sidebar, we’ve seen share increases up to 244%!

4. Give a Call to Action

Your visitors may share without you asking, but more so would if you reminded them. You can use customized greetings (through a Welcome Bar or something similar) to prompt your visitors to do something right when they land on your site. Within your content, you could also ask people to tweet specific quotes of your content (like this page).

5. Host a Giveaway

And speaking of calls to action, by running raffles or contests on your site, you’re getting your audience excited and giving them something fun to talk about. As a barrier of entry, you could ask your audience to simply share your content with their network for a chance to win a prize. Engaging campaigns like these can help get your existing network to bring in new followers for you.

6. Share Your Content on Social Frequently

This is obvious, but lots of sites neglect to keep their social communities informed of their latest content. It’s a tough practice to keep up with, so consider scheduling ahead of time using social media management services like HootSuite or Tweetdeck to get started. Your audience isn’t going to expect you to be in every social network, but they’ll expect postings if they follow you on social. It’s worth investing some time every week to keep your content going out fresh on social.

7. Always Use Photos

There are TONS of articles with stats proving content with images are shared more than content without. This is low-hanging fruit for your site. Plan to have great quality images with all your sharable content. Give your Pinterest fans a good photo they’ll want to pin, and your Instagram followers a reason to double-tap.

8. Guest Post

If you can contribute well-thought blog posts that tie back to your site, jump at the opportunity! And consider inviting popular guest bloggers to your site as well. Their existing communities will follow them to your site to read their post, and if you’ve got great content they find interesting, they might stick around!

9. Comment on Other Blogs

If you have the opportunity to do so, and something valuable to contribute, spend time getting to know other community members by leaving meaningful comments on other blogs. You’re letting audiences become aware of who you are––which is probably a primary concern for most start-up sites.

10. Optimize Your Site

We say this often: analytics can be your best friend. A smart thing to focus on what your site’s sharing and clicking patterns can tell you about how else you can optimize your site. Whether it’s tweaking content, reorganizing the layout, offering different colored sharing buttons, changing the placement of those buttons, etc., all these simple enhancements can be the key to growing your community.
What tips could you offer to a fellow site owner who wants to increase traffic and following right away? We’d love to hear them!

Introducing Additional Methods to Target Your Audience

addthis-interests-location-targeting
It’s important to reach the right person with the right message, so we’re thrilled to unveil the newest customization features for the Audience Targeting Rules Creator. This newest release gives you more than 200 AddThis-Inferred audience interests and the ability to target specific messages based on geographic location.

Read on for more about each of the enhancements:

Geographic Targeting

addthis-geographic-targeting
Now you can target messages to your site visitors based on geography, which is especially helpful for sites with visitors from different countries. For example: If you run a travel site and have a special for flights out of Heathrow, you can target visitors who frequent that departure location.
That said, If you run a small boutique in Brooklyn and want to target a message to users who live in Brooklyn to come by your store for a flash sale, you can do that, too!
How is this possible? By choosing to target at a continent, country, state and US DMA level, you’re able to hone in on a specific user’s location to show them a more targeted message.
This ability will help to reduce bounce rate and cultivate more highly qualified leads.

Interest-Based Audience Targeting

addthis-interest-targeting
AddThis sees more than 1.9B uniques/month across our 15 million site-strong global data network, which allows us to help you target different audiences based on their anonymous cross-web browsing behavior.
This enhancement allows you to more specifically target interest-based audiences based on over 200 dimensions. So, if you are a sporting goods store, now you can target messages to the portion of your visitors who like a specific sport (like soccer or yoga), rather that just “sports” in general. This “fine-targeting” should help you drive conversions among those more specific audience types!
Drop us a line below and let us know your thoughts on these newest features!

5 Ways to Boost Your Nonprofit Annual Fundraising Efforts

nonprofit-fundraising
Raising money is both the most important and most difficult objective for nonprofits to fulfill. Luckily, as organizations grow their digital profiles, they also grow their opportunities for fundraising. We pulled together some easy ways you can give your donation efforts a big boost.

1. Use strong calls to action.

Your “donate” messaging is the single most important factor when it comes to getting potential donors to support your nonprofit’s campaign. Say it loud and proud! Here are some ideas for making fundraising front and center.
  • Use an eye-catching button: A prominently placed, brightly colored button urging potential donors to open their wallets should be the first thing they see when they come to your site. Use it in more than one place throughout your website, like the top navigation, footer, and within feature boxes on every page. Mercy Home for Boys and Girls has a donate button in their top navigation and at the top right corner of each page, as well as at the bottom of the page with a small overlay asking visitors to take an action.
  • Think beyond “donate.” Use campaign-specific messaging to create a stronger call to action than simply “donate.” Rails to Trails, in addition to their regular “donate” options, has a “Join the Community” CTA button as well as a “Support Us” navigation item that’s highlighted, drawing a visitor’s eye. It’s another call to donate, but the messaging is designed to appeal more to potential donors’ emotions.

2. Leverage social proof.

Social proof is a powerful tool for decision-making online. If a friend or family member likes an organization’s page on Facebook, you’re more likely to click than you would by simply seeing an ad promoting it. The actions and support of others carries more weight than brand messages. Here are some easy ways to leverage social proof.
  • Add social sharing buttons: Make your website and campaign content easy to share on social media with AddThis Sharing Buttons. These buttons are especially useful on donation “thank you” pages. Give donors the ability to let their social media friends and followers know that they just gave to your cause – it will make those users more likely to click the link and support it as well.
  • Show your stats: Quantify your social proof and use it as a selling point. Show how much money you’ve raised for a campaign and how many people have donated; display the number of followers you have on social media; or share how many visitors signed your last petition. (RED)’s donate page lists their number of followers, and how much they could raise if everyone donated $1. Also highlighted is the amount of money they’ve fundraised to date.
  • Create a hashtag: Creating a hashtag for a specific campaign will help donors or supporters to stay engaged with your nonprofit organization while also spreading the word. AFS-USA, an Intercultural Exchange program, encourages the students involved with the program to use the hashtag #AFSlife on Twitter and Instagram to share their adventures and experiences while also helping to raise awareness and brand recognition.

3. Make your website mobile-friendly.

Within the past four years, mobile use has grown nearly 400%, and 80% of online searches are now done on a smartphone. This means that there’s a good chance many of your website visitors are on a cell phone or tablet. Giving them a clean, easy-to-navigate mobile experience will ensure that you don’t lose potential donors.
The nonprofit charity:water does most things right in the digital space, and their mobile site is no exception. Not only is it beautiful and pared down, the donation process is stripped down to the essentials in a simple, multi-page experience with minimal scrolling.

4. Suggest donation amounts and frequency.

For a first-time donor, it’s hard to know what amount will really make an impact. Suggesting donation amounts makes it easy for them. It’s even better if you can illustrate exactly what each giving level can pay for. Restore NYC offers concrete examples of how much services cost, different giving levels, and the opportunity to make your contribution recurring on a monthly basis.

5. Keep in touch with donors through email.

If donors give to a cause, they want to hear about how it’s doing! Keep in touch with those who have donated with news and updates about how their contributions are making a difference. And think beyond just donors when it comes to growing your subscriber list. A visitor to your website may not donate the first time they visit, but with a reminder and more information, you can convert them to a donor. Here are a few ideas for using email marketing to grow your fundraising.
  • Use marketing tools to collect email addresses: With the AddThis Audience Targeting Rules, you can show a sign-up message to a visitor based on their source, behavior or interests. For example, if someone visits your donate page but doesn’t donate, you can target a message to them before they exit your website urging them to sign up for your email newsletter. If they were interested enough to click on your donate button, they probably won’t mind the occasional email.
  • Create a pledge: Giving visitors a way to support your nonprofit organization without a donation is a win-win – they feel like they’re helping to support your cause; and you get the opportunity to educate them about your organization and convert them to a donor later on. Creating a petition or pledge is a great way to add new subscribers to your email list. The Earth Day Network creates timely pledges and petitions to get visitors involved and grow their network.
  • Use social media integrations: Many newsletter services like MailChimp and Constant Contact offer integrations with your social media profiles. Use them! They’re a great way to capture a user sign-up while they’re on social media, instead of requiring them to visit your website.
Engaging with your website visitors will go a long way toward building relationships with them—whether they’re regular or one-time donors, or simply those who are interested in your cause. Those relationships, and the trust and passion they’re based on, are what will ultimately make your fundraising efforts a success.
